Saturday here was cold, wet, and windy, so I scrapped my plans to go hiking and decided to go to the planetarium instead. (I'm sure it will surprise no one to know that I'm nerdy enough to hold an annual pass.) Instead of walking up the hill to the botanical gardens, where the planetarium is, I decided to take the cable car since that's one of the heavily promoted must-do things in Wellington. And...it was a cable car. Somehow I thought it would be cooler.
Wellington Harbour and business district from the botannical gardens.
Here's a blurry shot of the observatory. It really is pretty cool. And they run telescope sessions on Saturday nights when the sky is clear (not THIS Saturday, obviously).
Afterwards, the wind had let up a little bit so I decided to just walk home rather than bothering with public transit. Here are some shots of the gardens. They're just starting to bloom, but I imagine they'll be beautiful in the summertime.
And I passed the Parliament Building on the way home. Can you see why they call it the beehive?
