Mount Victoria

I went for a hike up to the top of Mount Victoria yesterday. There's a big park with trails all over the mountain. It was all green and pretty, and it was a sunny day--yay! After two winters in a row (Spokane was just starting to warm up when I left) I'm excited that summer is coming!

Here's downtown Wellington (or the Wellington CBD--Central Business District--as they call it here) from the top of Mount Victoria.

Looking the other direction--that's Mount Crawford and Miramar, and the airport.

On the other side of that ocean is Antarctica! This is Hataitai and Kilburnie. You can see my church steeple in the middle just above the trees.

My new goal in life is to make a friend who has a sailboat.

You know in Lord of the Rings, when Frodo and Sam are crossing the Shire and they run into Pippin and Merry, and then all four of them have to get off the path to hide from the Nazgul? This is where that was filmed. The ledge they hid under is between some of those trees.

My Dad served a mission in New Zealand. I remember him also talking about staring out at the water and thinking "There is nothing between me and Antarctica but this water..."

I am loving your posts and descriptions of things. Miss you!
