Trip to Boulder

I was supposed to go to Boulder in June for work-related stuff, and the trip was already paid for, so even though I didn't have to do work stuff anymore I decided to take the trip anyway. I love Boulder. I've been told that the people are fruitcakes, but I never talk to any of the people. I just like to go there to hike. Last time I went to Boulder (last August) I was REALLY excited about climbing one of the big mountains (I've already hiked all the smaller ones) but my hiking trip was cancelled due to snow. In August. Yeah, it was depressing!

So this time, when the weather was beautiful on my first day in Colorado (which just happened to be my birthday) I decided I was going to tackle one of the big mountains (Bear Mountain) immediately before the weather changed. The trail crossed several streams and was a bit of a scramble at times, but it wasn't a technical climb, just a hike. You can see that stormclouds had blown in by the time I got to the summit. The lightning and thunder started just as I got to the top of the mountain, so I couldn't stay up there very long before coming back down.

Some friends from college, Jenn and Jason, live in Denver with their two little girls, so I got to see them on this trip too. That was really fun! They've been living in London for the last year and just got back to the United States a few weeks before I was there. They came up to Boulder with their girls and we played in a park, and then when the girls were getting tired, they invited me to go back to Denver to spend the night at their house and catch up a little bit. The next day we went to Heritage Square, an amusement park near Denver, and played with the girls until the rain drove us away.
