Trip to Tulsa

It's been a whirlwind month, and I need to catch up on my blog posts. Right after quitting my job, I went to Tulsa to see my friend Wendy. The trip was already planned, but originally I was just going to stay Memorial Day weekend. Since I had now become a woman of leisure, I extended my stay by about a week, and luckily Wendy was okay with that.

Wendy has been the Young Women's President in her ward for several years, so I've gotten a chance to know the girls in her ward pretty well. When I was there, we went to the bridal shower for one of her former Young Women. Even though Ashland had graduated from the Young Women's Program and has been attending college, it was hard to think of her as a bride! In my mind, she's still 14! This was one of a very few pictures I took in Tulsa. These are three of Wendy's Young Women (Kayelyn, Savannah, and Madison) at Ashland's bridal shower.

Most of the time I spent in Tulsa, we just stayed around Wendy's house. She was taking a stressful three-week Statistics course, with class for four hours every day and homework every night, so I used that as an excuse to just sit around and be lazy. Wendy would ask if I wanted to go do something, and I would tell her that we needed to stay home so she could do her homework. I'm so helpful! But really, I was just decompressing after the stress of the job and getting used to the fact that life was going to be different now. I also needed to think about plans for the future.

Wendy's house is right by the Arkansas River, and in the past I've found the river to be a good spot for prayer and meditation. The river came through again for me on this trip. By the time I left, I felt overwhelmingly peaceful and excited for the future. I felt like Heavenly Father loved me, was mindful of me, and would guide me along the right path. It was enough.
